Anderson served in [[Vietnam]] before his political career. He won two ''Bronze Stars'' and four ''Army Commendation Medals''. On November 9, 1987, Anderson became first Washington state's openly gay legislator. He served from January 1988 to 1994 in the [[Washington House of Representatives]], representing the 43th house district. In 1994, he became senator of [[Washington State Senate]]. Anderson had died in August 4, 1995 of [[AIDS]].<br />
