Calvin B. "Cal" Anderson (1948-1995) was an American politician politician. A Democrat, he served in the Washington House of Representatives, representing the 43th house district, based in Seattle.
Biography
Anderson served in Vietnam before his political career. He won two Bronze Stars and four Army Commendation Medals. On November 9, 1987, Anderson became first Washington state's openly gay legislator. He served from January 1988 to 1994 in the Washington House of Representatives, representing the 43th house district. In 1994, he became senator of Washington State Senate. Anderson had died in August 4, 1995 of AIDS.
On April 10, 2003, the entire area of earlier Linkcoln Park in Seaatle was designated Cal Anderson Park after Washington's first openly gay state legislator.[1]
